The C-STEM Train-the-Trainer Affiliate Program allows district/county office of education staff, experienced teachers, and college/university faculty of C-STEM Affiliates to become certified C-STEM Trainers who can provide C-STEM professional development for teachers in their district, county, or geographic area.
C-STEM College/University Regional Train-the-Trainer Affiliates
C-STEM College/University Regional Train-the-Trainer Affiliates may offer C-STEM certified training through collaboration with C-STEM certified trainers. These partner organizations of colleges and universities collaborate with the UC Davis C-STEM Center to offer quality C-STEM training in their area. The Affiliate offers the standard training such as C-STEM 2-Day Academy and 1-Week Institute on Integrated Computing and STEM Education with fees at the standard C-STEM rates for K-14 teachers, which makes the C-STEM College/University Regional Train-the-Trainer Affiliate program self-sustainable . This is a great opportunity for a college to forge a strong collaborative relation with their local K-12 schools to close the achievement gap and develop talent pipeline. Please note that not all organizations qualify to become a C-STEM Affiliate due to requirements on size of population served. Affiliate organizations are selected deliberately to ensure adequate training availability in each geographic area; if an area is already served by a C-STEM County/College Regional Train-the-Trainer Affiliate, we will not add additional affiliates in that area. C-STEM District/County Train-the-Trainer Affiliates
C-STEM District/County Train-the-Trainer Affiliates may offer C-STEM certified training through collaboration with C-STEM certified trainers. These partner school district/county office of education collaborate with the UC Davis C-STEM Center to offer quality C-STEM training for teachers in their own school district. The Affiliate may conduct training for teachers in different subjects and different grade levels anytime. The annual subscription for a District/County Train-the-Trainer Affiliate is $5,000.
The District or County Office of Education can send C-STEM trainers to a Train-the-Trainer Institute to be certified. Registration is required to attend the Train-the-Trainer Institute. Each trainer for attending the Train-the-Trainer Institute costs $500.
To become a certified C-STEM Trainer, there are eligibility requirements related to programming, teaching, and coaching/mentoring experience.
C-STEM Trainer Requirements:
A C-STEM trainer must meet the following criteria:
- Have attended a previous 1-week C-STEM Institute on Integrated Computing and STEM Education.
- Meet one of the qualifications below:
- Have more than one-year teaching experience on C, C++, or Java in a middle school, high school, or college.
- Have taken C, C++, or Java course in a college with a passing letter grade and more than 3-years teaching experience in math and CTE subjects in a middle school, high school, or college.
- Have taught one or more of the year-long C-STEM curricula in its entirety for more than two years in a middle school, high school, or college.
Coaching and mentoring experience is a plus.
A C-STEM trainer must attend a C-STEM Train-the-Trainer Institute in order to provide a certified C-STEM training. C-STEM trainers must collaborate jointly with a C-STEM Train-the-Trainer Affiliate.
