Overview
Improving mathematics achievement requires effective mathematics instruction and intervention, particularly for students requiring additional support. Aligned with the California Mathematics Framework, this workshop explores how hands-on coding and robotics, integrated with STEAM and computer science, can make mathematics engaging, meaningful, and relevant for every student while strengthening mathematical understanding, reasoning, and problem solving.
Participants will experience mathematical explorations with coding and robotics, Computational Storytelling, Engineering Design with Robotics, RoboParade™, and RoboPlay™ Competitions, while exploring Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility, research-informed instructional strategies, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) that support diverse learners.
Workshop presenters will share practical strategies and classroom insights for hands-on TK–12 mathematics learning and intervention, STEAM and computer science, special education, and Expanded Learning, including afterschool and summer programs. These complementary approaches can be implemented independently or in combination to meet instructional goals while complementing your existing core mathematics curricula and supporting high-impact instructional practices.
These regional workshops build on the Strengthening TK–12 Math Intervention Under the California Mathematics Framework workshop held at UC Davis in May 2026.
Hands-on Learning Experiences
Explore grade-appropriate, hands-on mathematics learning experiences across TK–12 through coding and robotics.
1. Exploring Mathematical Concepts with Coding and Robotics
Explore how students visualize mathematical concepts, including number lines, arithmetic operations, positive and negative numbers, distances, coordinates, and linear functions, while strengthening mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Learn how to teach TK–K mathematics using physical robots, activity mats, and manipulatives through hands-on, screen-free learning with teacher-led activities and demonstrations.
2. Computational Storytelling
Explore how students integrate mathematics with STEAM, computer science, engineering design, reading, and writing through coding and robotics to create interactive stories that strengthen mathematical understanding, creativity, and communication.
3. Engineering Design with Robotics and RoboParade™
Explore how students Design, Build, and Program Their Own Robot Machines, including RoboParade™ floats, while applying arithmetic operations and mathematical concepts involving distances, angles, and motion to solve real-world problems.
Explore Engineering Design with Robotics RoboParade™ Showcases
4. RoboPlay™ Competitions
Experience mathematics-focused, curriculum-embedded, level-playing-field RoboPlay™ Adventures and Challenges that strengthen mathematical reasoning, problem solving, collaboration, and perseverance.
RoboPlay™ Adventures and Challenges (TK–12) RoboPlay™ Competitions
Curriculum Design, Teaching Strategies, MTSS, and Classroom Insights
Explore grade-appropriate, research-informed curriculum design and instructional strategies to strengthen TK–12 mathematics learning and intervention.
1. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Accessibility
Explore inclusive curriculum design and instructional strategies that reduce barriers to mathematics learning and support diverse learners.
2. Research-Informed Instruction and Pedagogy
Explore teaching strategies that strengthen mathematical reasoning, discourse, productive struggle, student engagement, collaboration, and problem solving.
3. Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)
Explore how Tier 1 core mathematics instruction, Tier 2 targeted intervention, and Tier 3 intensive individualized support work together to strengthen mathematics learning and address diverse student needs.
4. Sharing Classroom Experiences
Learn practical teaching strategies from experienced C-STEM teachers for mathematics learning and intervention, STEAM and computer science, and Expanded Learning, including approaches that complement your existing core mathematics curricula.
Join us in shaping a future where math is not just learned but loved.
Complimentary RoboBlocky Curriculum and Platform Access
Participating educators and their students will receive complimentary access to the RoboBlocky Curriculum and Platform, including all curriculum programs with virtual robots and support for both virtual and physical robots, through June 30, 2027. Physical robots are optional.
The RoboBlocky Curriculum offers three complementary programs: RoboBlocky Math™ (including Math Intervention for Grades 5-12), STEAM and Computer Science with Robotics, and Expanded Learning with Robotics. Schools and districts may implement these programs independently or in combination to meet their instructional goals.
The RoboBlocky Curriculum also provides mathematics curriculum alignment resources for more than 25 widely used mathematics programs and textbooks, supporting instruction and intervention alongside your existing core math curricula.
Teachers will be provided with the robotic Math Instructor Kit and STEAM Instructor Kit during the workshop.
